Pams Wheat Biskets - Target Audience

This student brief required us to redesign the packaging for PAMS Wheat Biskits to suit a very specific target audience. My design had to appeal to 'Cat' a young lady who is somewhat obsessed with the 1950s and loves the cars, clothes and music of the era. Her profile showed she was artistic (a student makeup artist) enjoyed the attention her dress sense and tattoos bought her and loved things that were different from the run of the mill. She attended a local alternative craft co-op, wanted to be a burlesque dancer, and enjoyed going to classic car rallies.
I decided to focus on her love of 1950's cars and my research found that many other objects of the era used car based designs - for instance radios, kitchen appliances and signage. I also discovered the tin lunch boxes that every school child had during that era, and decided a car designed lunch box would appeal to Cat's quirky nature. To give some contrast and interest to the interior of the design I came up with a 50's inspired 'fabric' pattern based on wheat and strawberries to line the box and use on the plastic wrapping that keeps the wheat biskits fresh.
The box is designed to stack on the shelf like a traditional cereal packet so it would be easy and practical to transport and display. But instead of the usual  top opening it has a perforated strip that allows it to open like a lunchbox when it is in the pantry or on the table.
