Nepali by TDM's Scarf Design Contest
In spring 2013, I discovered that a local company that designs high-end scarves, Nepali by TDM Design, was hosting a design contest. I submitted three watercolor designs, and one was chosen as the contest winner! My design will be hand-painted on silk chiffon by Nepalese artisans a sold as part of the company's Fall 2013 line as "The Harper." I was so glad to stumble across this opportunity, and even more thrilled to win.
My inspiration statement: "Though I haven't yet had the opportunity to see a heartless desert sun rise of Brice or Antelope Canyon, I am inspired by the paradoxical idea that such a still landscape was sculpted out of elements--rain, dust, plants and animals--that were once so vibrant and dynamic. I hoped to convey the spare, elegant, and deeply hued striations, while also giving an impression of the captured movement embedded in the rock over millenia."
