The Sunday Times- Style
Editor: Martin Ivens

The Sunday Times Style offers a weekly edit of fashion and beauty, celebrity interviews and new writing with an irreverent take on the zeitgeist, including regular columns from the UK's best-loved writers, Dolly Alderton and India Knight. ... What is it like to be Britain's next supermodel?

I was drawn to this magazine because of the still life photoshoots. From looking at the front cover, you can tell that it's a fashion magazine. The cover is of a model in a field with a white backdrop. The model is also sitting on the chair which makes her body go across the bottom of the cover, this frames the writing at the side of the photograph. The model is wearing bright neon clothes, this contrasts with the neutral colours of the field and the background. On the inside the is some still life photoshoots. They all have abstract compositions, that contain chairs and accessories. In the first photograph, they have used autumn colours e.g. greens and browns. This relates to when the supplement had been published because they are starting to advertise autumn fashion. The wood of the chairs compliments the green background and the brown accessories. There is one issue I have found in this photograph, it's the fact that you can see the roll of the backdrop at the bottom. This draws my attention away from the main focus. In the second photograph I like the fact that the accessories are being balanced on the wooden structure, it creates a complex composition. The accessories used are different tones on red and brown, this builds up the composition. I also think it works well against the grey background because the structure is emphasised because of the contrasting colours. The third photograph is taken from straight down, you can see the objects flat. The image contains black accessories and glass. I like the fact that the glass was placed on the left because then the shadows don't interfere with the accessories. Personally, I think the composition is to busy considering that they are advertising the accessories. I think they should of just focused on the accessories or maybe they should of just used clear glass, not coloured because then the colours wouldn't clash as much and the clear glass would just create a pattern around the accessories. The forth image had a very complex composition. I like the colours used. The background of the photograph really bothers me. If you look at the floor you can see two pieces of white paper that haven't been put together properly. Also on the left side you can see a bit on black in the background coming out of nowhere. I think they should of had the whole background one colour to make the photoshoot look more professional or they should of at least retouched the image before the supplement was published. By looking at these photographs it has made me realise what I should be careful about in my own photoshoot.
Statistics
From looking at the statistics of this newspaper, you can see that slightly more men rad it than women. Most of the people that read it are over 65, this is probably due to the fact that a lot of them are retired and have more time to read the supplements. Also less young people read supplements because they have access to the internet, so they don't need to read them as much. The majority of people that read it are from London.
