Las Piedras (multiple owners)

Las Piedras.

Las Piedras is an interior design project developed by Mob for the architectural firm of Carlos González. The project consisted of a small housing complex located on the beautiful coast of Quintana Roo Mexico: Tulum. The purpose of the project was to design the interior of the houses, which were mainly thought for vacation rental purposes. One of the most interesting aspects of this project was that the whole architectural project was developed on top and a side of several cenotes, cenotes are a deep natural pit or sinkhole that exposes groundwater. Having known this, as a team we decided that the whole concept of the interior design should revolve around the natural aesthetics of the place and contrast that with a few pieces with a sculptural aspect.

The creative process for Las Piedras was definetly something I reallly enjoyed at Mob. We basically resume our first brief meeting to: "Let's design this as if the flinstones met danish people" meaning that our designs should be read as something raw and simple yet very functional and clean.

The final result of the project was something that I liked. I feel that, as a team, we designed an honest interior space that didn't take away from the important visual weight of the architecture, and accompanied well the aesthetic intentions the natural area asks for.
