I was always a lover of heights. That I found out about 12 years ago when I climbed at the top of a mountain. I felt like, being on top fills me with life more than anything else. I could actually breathe and taste the sweet air there.
Several years later I've found myself a favorite spot. It was something about it that let me breath again, although a polluted city air. It was the top of a building! Then I realized it was the heights which I was in love with, I was in love with the top... heels over head! I would hang out with friends there, go and play cards, have a chat on sunshine or just lie down and watch the stars...
One day (2006) I decided to take my new camera with me and photograph the sunset, but I just couldn't escape from shooting myself on the top, trying to catch and freeze the feeling it gave me,... and that became one of my best self-portraits then, and later also the most iconic one! Six years later (2012) I applied at a National Geographic contest with that photograph and from millions of photos submitted it was chosen by Editors to compete with dozen other photos of the week. After that, it was featured as the first one into the top 10 photographs of the week. Later I found out that it got on top of the month with the most votes out of hundreds of photos also to be published in the magazine.
It seemed it's concept was starting to grow alive! It simply loved to be on top, it felt alive there! I was feeling the heights again, I could breathe the metaphor of all this and it tasted marvelous! So I decided to start my journey through the tops, I wanted to give to it better halves, siblings, soulmates,..
There may be a polluted mess, a whole city, a chaos of different lives or just a beautiful old mountain standing there on its ground before me, but while I'm standing there, I am being filled with more than just air, more than joy,.. with peace!
