TVShow Time Redesign

In Spring-Summer 2012, at Etamin Studio, I got to work on the redesign of TVShow Time, a very popular app for TV shows fans, available on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

One year later, I worked again for Toze Labs on redesigning one of the main sections of the app, following the user feedback gathered for over 6 months.
As a matter of fact, Antonio and Talal were not only the first startupers we worked with (along with Infinit.io) but they were also among our first clients. Back then, TVShow Time was already a beloved iOS app counting thousands of users, which made it a great app for every TV Show fan. But they came to us with a clear list of goals for the next version:

● Build a real social experience for the community
● Re-think the UX to bring more simplicity to an already complex app
● Create the beautiful UI design the app deserved for so long

Through brainstormings, storyboards & wireframes, we came up with a lot of proposals to complete these 3 challenges. Here are 5 remarkable features that made their way to the final version that we’d like to highlight:

My TVShow Time
The new main section called “My TVShow time” (which includes shortcuts for every section, a news feed and a notification center) enables the user to interact with his friends and the whole community.

Emotions
Users are now able to share their emotions about an episode they’ve just watched. This has become a very popular feature now.

New UI design pattern
A fly-in menu gives a consistent and quick access to all sections within the app.

A pretty and useful shelf design
We tweaked a little bit the good old “Shelf Design” in order to give an hint of how much is left to be watched for each show the user is following. In a similar fashion, we added sliders to mark multiple episodes as watched in the TV Show cards.

Find new TV Shows
The exploration section now enables the user to discover new TV shows by genre and other criterias such as “most popular” using filters. This section, combined with the news feed, makes using the app a very effective way to discover new TV series to follow.

We were also very happy to see that Antonio and Talal have really mastered the development of these features and the hundred other little things we’ve designed. They even added smooth animations and gestures!

But, ultimately, what we were really proud of is to know that in only a week after the release of the new design:

● Download numbers have doubled
● More than 100k emotions were shared
● More than 150k users downloaded the update
Get ready to hear more from them soon :-)
