Il Giardino Jacquard, o giardino del Lanificio Rossi, è un giardino all'inglese tardoromantico situato nel centro storico di Schio (Vicenza), proprio di fronte alla sede storica del lanificio e realizzato tra il 1859 e il 1878, su commissione dell'industriale Alessandro Rossi, dall'architetto vicentino Antonio Caregaro Negrin.
The Jacquard Garden, or Lanificio Rossi's garden, is a late-romantic English garden located in the historic center of Schio (Vicenza), right in front of the historic site of the wool mill and built between 1859 and 1878, commissioned by the industrialist Alessandro Rossi, from the Vicenza architect Antonio Caregaro Negrin.
Fu intitolato in onore del francese Joseph-Marie Jacquard, inventore dell'omonimo telaio automatico. Il giardino era aperto agli operai dell’opificio. Il complesso accoglie una serra, un teatro e una grotta annessa al belvedere. L’intero complesso era stato concepito come spazio riservato agli operai della fabbrica.
The garden was named in honor of the French Joseph-Marie Jacquard, inventor of the automatic loom of the same name. It was open to the factory workers. The complex houses a greenhouse, a theater and a cave attached to the belvedere. The entire buiding was designed as a space reserved for factory workers.
Dopo anni di abbandono il Giardino Jacquard ha subito un importante restauro che ne ha coinvolto varie porzioni a partire dal 2015. L’apertura al pubblico è avvenuta nella primavera del 2019 svelando uno spazio unico caratterizzato da rare specie botaniche e un’architettura suggestiva.
After years of neglect, the Jacquard Garden has undergone an important restoration that has involved various portions since 2015. The opening to the public took place in the spring of 2019, revealing a unique space characterized by rare botanical species and suggestive architecture.
Il 20 luglio 2019 in occasione di UNDERSUNSET: un progetto di UNDERWOOL concepito come incursione urbana nei punti nevralgici di Schio. Differenti luoghi d’interesse sono stati coinvolti in esposizioni, attività laboratoriali e performance dal vivo.
On 20 July 2019 on the occasion of UNDERSUNSET: a UNDERWOOL project conceived as an urban incursion into the key points of Schio. Different places of interest were involved in exhibitions, laboratory activities and live performances.
Il Giardino Jacquard è stato teatro di “Ho rubato un giardino” mostra d’arte contemporanea curata da Casa Capra coinvolgendo il collettivo Il Salotto e un itinerario letterario creativo ideato da Quivirgola in collaborazione con gli illustratori Serena Mabilia e Federico Fusetti.
The Jacquard Garden was the scene of “Ho rubato un giardino" a contemporary art exhibition curated by Casa Capra involving the collective Il Salotto and a creative literary itinerary created by Quivirgola in collaboration with illustrators Serena Mabilia and Federico Fusetti.

The Secret Garden - Il giardino segreto, Frances Hodgson Burnett
Il titolo dell’evento è immaginato come analogia del testo, protagonista dell’attività pensata dalla libreria e studio di comunicazione Quivirgola, e del giardino Jacquard appena restituito alla comunità. L’attività di artisti e illustratori ha dialogato con gli spazi fisici e con le suggestioni storiche e botaniche che la sede ha stimolato direttamente.
The title of the event is imagined as an analogy of the text, the protagonist of the activity conceived by the library and communication studio Quivirgola, and of the Jacquard garden just returned to the community. The activity of artists and illustrators has interacted with the physical spaces and with the historical and botanical suggestions that the venue has directly stimulated.
La grotta è stata territorio di una caccia al tesoro con estratti e citazioni del romanzo, dove il pubblico è stato coinvolto nell’attività attraverso la riproduzione dello stesso audiolibro in sottofondo. La serra, il belvedere e i sentieri del giardino hanno accolto le opere dei cinque artisti del collettivo Il Salotto in dialogo con l’ambiente: Martina Camani , Stefan Milosavljevic, Francesco Pozzato, Fabio Ranzolin, Gianna Rubini.
The cave was the site of a treasure hunt with excerpts and quotes from the novel, where the public was involved in the activity by reproducing the same audio book in the background. The greenhouse, the lookout and the garden paths welcomed the works of the five artists of the collective Il Salotto in dialogue with the environment: Martina Camani, Stefan Milosavljevic, Francesco Pozzato, Fabio Ranzolin, Gianna Rubini.
Il pomeriggio è stato animato da due laboratori all’ombra del teatro, tra le piante secolari: “Il tuo giardino botanico” invitava a realizzare una cartolina con timbri in linoleum che recavano le specie arboree e vegetali presenti nel giardino. “Il tuo telaio tessile” citava l’indirizzo manifatturiero del luogo e coinvolgeva i partecipanti nella realizzazione di un ricamo floreale con fili colorati su supporto cartaceo.
The afternoon was animated by two workshops in the shadow of the theater, among the secular plants: “Il tuo giardino botanico" invited you to make a postcard with linoleum stamps bearing the tree and vegetable species present in the garden. “Il tuo telaio tessile" mentioned the manufacturing address of the place and involved the participants in the realization of a floral embroidery with colored threads on paper support.
Unitamente alle attività, Quivirgola ha presentato numerose edizioni de “Il giardino segreto” di Frances Hodgson Burnett insieme a differenti progetti realizzati per l’occasione. Erano presenti cartoline stampate in letterpress con cliché in gomma e due set di stampe che affrontavano sotto vari aspetti e declinazioni l’eredità storica e botanica del giardino Jacquard, realizzati dagli illustratori.
Together with the activities, Quivirgola presented numerous editions of "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett together with different projects created for the occasion. There were postcards printed in letterpress with rubber clichés and two sets of prints that dealt with the historical and botanical heritage of the Jacquard garden, made by the illustrators, in various aspects and variations.
Come ampliamento dei laboratori sono state stampate a mano cinquanta shopper in cotone con timbri in linoleum raffiguranti i punti di riferimento del giardino, gli strumenti del mestiere e la ricca varietà botanica con una grafica dal gusto vintage. L’intera progettazione è stato frutto di una collaborazione di Quivirgola insieme a Serena Mabilia e Federico Fusetti.
As an extension of the workshops, fifty cotton shopping bags with linocuts depicting the garden's landmarks, the tools of the trade and the rich botanical variety with vintage-style graphics were printed by hand. The entire design was the result of a collaboration between Quivirgola and Serena Mabilia and Federico Fusetti.
Accanto alle borse sono stati presentati i Quaderni di botanica impressi con timbri in linoleum e rilegati a mano, già presentati in primavera nel progetto HERBARIUM con quattro grafiche differenti. I notebook ampliavano la selezione di prodotti a tema vegetale e le suggestioni naturali.
Next to the tote bags, botanical notebooks were printed with linocuts and hand-bound, already presented in the HERBARIUM project in spring with four different graphics. The notebooks expanded the selection of vegetable-based products and natural suggestions.
Una sintesi perfetta dello spirito dell’evento è stato il video realizzato da Valentina Zanrosso che si è occupata anche della documentazione fotografica dei laboratori. Le riprese ripercorrono gli itinerari del giardino Jacquard attraverso le differenti attività, esposizioni e installazioni. Valentina ed Eleonora di Quivirgola sono state le ideatrici e le responsabili della preziosa interazione con gli illustratori Serena Mabilia e Federico Fusetti.
A perfect synthesis of the spirit of the event was the video made by Valentina Zanrosso who also took care of the photographic documentation of the laboratories. Shooting traces the Jacquard garden itineraries through the different activities, exhibitions and installations. Valentina and Eleonora from Quivirgola were the creators and managers of the precious interaction with the illustrators Serena Mabilia and Federico Fusetti.
