The Palouse
I have started to explore the landscape around my new home in the Palouse region (eastern Washington and northwest Idaho). The rolling hills of this land between the Rockies and the Cascades are planted in wheat, rape, and lentils, creating an undulating tapestry of colors and textures. Punctuating this gentle landscape is the occasional promontory, such as Steptoe Butte, and the gorge that is the dramatic setting of Palouse Falls.
