After installing a tall fountain constructed from a basalt rock in our back yard as part of a water feature, I was delighted when goldfinches discovered that this was an excellent source of refreshment on hot August days. Though most contented themselves with standing on the edge and dipping their beaks to take cautious sips, a few more fun-loving souls went all in and got gloriously soaked. Portraits of these unkempt avians with their drenched feathers gave me much delight and amusement.
