Die Berliner (Notes of Berlin Book Concept)

BOOK CONCEPT AND DESIGN FOR "NOTES OF BERLIN"
SEMESTER PROJECT – UNIVERSITY OF THE ARTS BERLIN.

The book "Die Berliner..." deals with how Notes (notes from the project "Notes of Berlin") are perceived externally. In sum, one can say that the character of the inhabitants of the capital becomes visible through the notes. This behavior or effect forms the basis of the concept. The concept bears the name "the Berliners" and stands out because it is a mirror to society in Berlin. It shows the characteristics and the different people in the different districts of Berlin. The design is based on the Notes themselves and thus reflects their character. This creates a direct reference to the project itself and ensures that the book is recognized and assigned. The language in the entire book is three different languages in order to A. draw attention to the versatility of the languages in Berlin and B. expand the book as mentioned in the briefing to the various markets. This results in a structure for the entire book, because it is designed in three layers. The top layer is German, followed by e.g: English and Chinese at the bottom. In order to get an exact copy of the Notes, an 80g paper was chosen, because it is used as frequently used copy paper for Notes. However, a volume paper was used to achieve a higher quality at the same weight. The font is Arial, as this is also the most common font on Notes. The cover reproduces the content and is also structured in three layers. The rolled up paper should link to the Notes itself. Additionally the title is provided with a relief varnish to refer to the Tesa with which the Notes are mostly attached.
