Cardboard Stool

The Cardboard Stool.
Following the exploration of existing stools and boxes using various commonly used folding techniques, the group’s creative process and the development of individualy made sketches was initiated. The desired ideological guidelines were simplicity, minimalism, solidity, ingenuity and aesthetics. One concept was retained. Starting from this simple idea, the positive and negative points of the concept were underlined:

Positives: Simplicity, minimalist, silhouette, ingenuity

Negatives: Stability, support at the seat, proportions
From the initial model, solutions were established to solve the problems outlined previously. After the construction of a first full-scale prototype, the problems of structure and aesthetics were more evident. A succession of prototypes and iterations were performed, gradually improving the stability, strength, finesse of the joints and the general shape of the stool.
The project aiming to obtain a product that assembles easily and quickly while maintaining solidity, a test team challenged those concepts. Using an assembly manual, the team successfully made and used the stool while giving some insight into the ease of assembly and simplicity of the manual. With the help of this test’s results, a final version was developed, resulting in a simple and easy-to-use stool made entirely of cardboard.
The end result is a simple, minimalist, sturdy, stable, ingenious and aesthetically pleasing stool that assembles easily and quickly.
