The Plastic Free Freska is a campaign that Drumstick launched in summer of 2019 with the sponsorship of KarmSolar to replace the Freska plastic bags with paper bags. Freska is a very common Egyptian sweet that is sold on the beach particularly on in Alexandria and Egypt's North coast. it's a small honey biscuit snack that really doesn't need a plastic bag, but it is sold in one. We wanted to cut down these bags so we offered the paper bags for free to the freska sellers.
The big catch is that distribution actually was made through the beach goers themselves, we encouraged people to collect the bags from distribution points and give them to the freska sellers themselves. This way we maximize the ownership of change, to make everyone feel that they CAN make a difference and hopefully encourage and inspire them to cut more single use plastics in their lives.
