Observations from the Unknown

Observations from the Unknown
Solo Exhibition

Informed by groundbreaking celestial data gathered by the Kepler Spacecraft over the past nine years, Owen decided to visualise the fascinating data it has collected for nine chosen planets.

Appearing abstract, the artworks are actually created from a series of forms used to represent details such as the orbital periods, mass, radius and age of each planet manifesting as concentric rings, starbursts and swirls that take the viewer on their own journey through the artwork.
The hand cut large-scale artworks were exhibited across the West Coast of the US at venues such as Argonaut gallery (where the exhibition opened), Team One and David & Goliath.

In addition to the papercut artworks, Owen also created several large scale pieces including free-standing artworks and wall hangings.
The Launch of the Exhibition at the Argonaut gallery in San Francisco was celebrated by holding a course of workshops taught by Owen, allowing visitors the chance to try out some paper-cutting themselves. You can find out more about the story behind these artworks and the exhibition itself here on Owen’s Showcase!
