PeerForward - Leveraging Positive Peer Influence

Arthur “Art” J. Samberg is a well-known Wall Street executive, having co-founded and led Pequot Partners into becoming the world’s largest hedge fund in 2000. A philanthropist, Art Samberg is a recipient of the Lifetime Peer Leader by College Summit.

College Summit, which is now known as PeerForward, is a nonprofit that utilizes positive peer influence to motivate high school students from low-income districts to pursue and obtain college degrees. By providing the right training to a small group of influential students in their schools, these students then help guide their classmates to prepare for college and go through the steps to get enrolled. Since its launching, the program has served over 350,000 students throughout the country.

Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh found that in 2016-17, the financial aid completion rate in PeerForward schools was 26 percent higher compared to similar schools, equating to releasing an additional $13 million in aid. Students from PeerForward schools also have the same length of stay in college percentage as students from all economic status.
