A former hedge fund investment strategist and owner of Hawkes Financial LLC (his family office entity), Art J. Samberg possesses a professional resume comprising numerous successful enterprises and career achievements. In addition to his current family firm, Arthur J. Samberg built a number of lucrative asset management businesses, including Pequot Capital Management Inc., which he led from 1999 until its closing in 2009. Recognized as a leader in the industry, Art J. Samberg regularly attended the Barron’s Roundtable, an annual panel of leading economists who analyze the U.S. economy and predict economic trends.

While pursuing his education, Arthur Samberg established institutional relationships that would continue throughout his career. He received a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School and a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University, along with a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Today, as a prominent alumnus of Columbia Business School, Art J. Samberg makes substantial philanthropic gifts to the institution. In 2006, he donated an extraordinary gift of $25 million, to help develop curriculum and faculty as part of the school’s drive to advance its role as an international leader in business thinking. As the largest gift, Arthur Samberg’s donation served as a challenge grant to increase the school’s faculty through chair endowments and attracting faculty in emerging business subjects.

At the midtown Manhattan hotel Le Parker Meridien in 2010, Columbia Business School faculty and alumni gathered to honor Art J. Samberg for his 2006 gift, which had thus far led to the endowment of 20 professorships. In 2002, after a $10 million gift from Arthur J. Samberg, the school founded The Arthur J. Samberg Institute for Teaching Excellence, which seeks to improve the teaching and learning experience at Columbia Business School through programs, resources, and information for faculty members and students.
