Female Characters Concept
Male characters Concept
I worked on a game project where I was tasked to create characters of different age and also with disabilities for a game's character creator. I began by making concept art in Photoshop and after that working in Illustrator.
I wanted to make it seem as if the characters were the same person in different stages of their lives, from child to elder. Another task was to make these characters have disabilities. Partial, blindness, hearing loss, loss of use of limb etc.
During the concept phase I tried my best to present the subject in a sensitive manner, treating these characters with dignity, with respect for their condition. This game was after all going to be a game about raising awareness about a serious subject.
Discarded early concept art. In the early stages we were puzzling on whether or not to make the style of this game be sort of 8-bit.
I was also working on a gender neutral character and a character in a wheelchair but was asked to shelf that idea due to time constraints.
Its a shame that I could not complete it but a gender neutral character was not asked for and was something that I wanted to over-deliver.
Ultimately I decided that if its not required I would not work on it.
I had a very early concept for the characters. My vision was to have them all be laboratory mice instead of people, but the company rejected that. They wanted people, and I understand. If anyone likes my mouse concept, I'd like to make it happen. Maybe for a different game.
