Fighting Games Club Poster
Client's old poster.
I disliked how it looked so I offered to make him a new one. He didn't trust me at first but after I showed him some samples of my work he was convinced that it was a good idea to update it. I was interested in joining the club but didn't want to have such a bad poster so I did the job pro bono.
Moldboard for new logo.
I was inspired by e-sports and wrestling logos. I feel like fighting games inspire competition. Its one versus one players and may the better of the two win. The concept is very machismo.
Moldboard for poster. I looked at fight event posters, e-sports and wrestling. Following up with the machismo spirit of fighting games. All of these posters practically scream aggression but also about skill. You will notice that most of them incorporate some kind of line of separation between the contestants.

Logo Final
Poster art features Videogame Characters from Popular franchises: Guilty Gear® and Street-fighter®.
Red and blue lines separate the two characters are a reference to the Dutch flag (The fighting game club is Dutch)
You'll remember me mentioning the line of separation between contestants in the boxing posters. Here the line represents not only the dutch flag but a separation between two franchises, two fighters, two possible players. It invites the viewer to imagine himself picking a side. Red VS Blue.
If you really think about it...I put too much thought into this.

I made different iterations for the text version 1 and version 2 and found that having the text be lower is optimal as the lines in the back naturally guide the observer's eye to them. I also experimented with the diagonal letters and decided to show that version to the client.
Even though I wasn't happy with the results of my experiment because the words covered too much of the art, the client was really enthusiastic about it and ultimately I managed to get it to work. The poster was a success and the club has gained some new members. Not a lot, but some.
