Cph Ink 2018 - Visual Identity

Visual Identity for Cph Ink '18
Visual identity generated as a first year exam in Graphic Design PBA, at the Danish School of Media and Journalism.
The case was to build a visual identity for a big tattoo convention in Copenhagen.
In my solution i wanted to honour the fact, that Copenhagen is one of the oldest tattoing citys in the western world.
The first tattoo parlors opened in Nyhavn at the end of the 1800-hundreds, and every sailor in Scandinavia, including the danish king Frederik 9., was tattooed here.

The mode of expressions is build around traditional tattoo style.
The logo is drawn in an oldschool style, with traditional, yet sharp handdrawn letters.
All this is paying homage to the tattoo tradition of Nyhavn, Copenhagen.
The poster features an illustration of an famous picture of the danish king
Frederik 9. (1899-1972), who was a big fan of sailortattoos.
The style emulates a "flash sheet", a sheet with tattoodesigns for the customer to choose from.

The colours have been chosen for their unique features - the dark blue creates a refined, yet rough look. The red creates an complimentary contrast, while being a favourite colour amongst traditional tattoa artists.
The beige is emulating the watercolor flash sheet.
