Graphic design and street art come together in this recent mural for ArtLane (an initiative of Henderson Land) in Hong Kong. Off a busy street in the Sai Ying Pun neighborhood, a mini gallery of street art by local artists transforms a haven of alleyways found between old buildings and housing blocks. Reimagining a phrase from the classic Beatles song, the mural is a positive reminder for busy Hong Kongers, who hopefully are encouraged to pause here for a moment to consider the good things in life.
Text and shapes are placed abstractly, almost as a pattern, creating movement and interacting with the architecture, blending together effortlessly with pipes, air conditioning, an old door, and wiring. The Sans Serif typeface Maax was used (loosely) for the typography here (painted by eye with spray paint, and not as an exact duplicate), its clean form matching nicely with the surrounding geometric shapes.
