Water hyacinth, the most invasive plant in the world, has gradually colonized the Abidjan lagoon in Côte d'Ivoire and is developing very rapidly. This plant is causing serious damage to the ecosystem. Introduced voluntarily by humans, it now bears witness to a form of anthropogenic pollution: the more polluted the water, the more the plant grows. Since the lagoon has now become a real dump, it offers an ideal environment for the development of water hyacinth.

However, the Ebrié lagoon has always been an significant landmark in the development of Abidjan and in the daily life of the Abidjanese people. It was a place of pleasure, swimming, canoe races, fish farming, fishing, washing clothes....

The aim of the "Vridi Pearl" is to enable the Ebrié lagoon to regain its status as a "Pearl of Lagoons" while allowing Ivorians to swim in waters that were once "sparkling".

Thus, the Vridi Pearl, located on an artificial territory, is presented as a place where the water hyacinth can be used to produce energy, cleanse the water in the Lagoon and invite the public to enjoy themselves. A wastewater treatment plant, a power plant and a water park are blended together in a single project. Through this mixture, the project offers a fun and educational journey.
