GCHQ100 POSTER CAMPAIGN
GCHQ, Britain's intelligence agency, will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2019 with, among other events, an exhibition at the Science Museum in London. Visitors will be able to interact with some of the agency's gadgets, read some previously–secret documents and papers, and learn about the amazing work of cryptographic giants like Denniston, Turing and Tiltman. The brief asks for an advertising campaign to promote the exhibition with a series of three adshel posters and a 48–sheet billboard.
My illustrations of the various gadgets (and of the GCHQ building in the billboard) take centre stage in my poster layouts. These were created in Illustrator as vector graphics and each is accompanied by a witty remark which talks about the history of the gadget.
The branded layout takes a bit of inspiration from the book covers of John Le Carre's spy novels, a homage to the love of espionage. The morse code background graphic running through the series represents the number “100”.
