Design Speak

I had the sweet opportunity to interview Kristin Schultz — a designer at Hallmark, and the wife of one of JCCC GD’s alumni! She has a knack for combining colors and shapes. I wanted to convey that in my layout, and complement the work that was featured in the spreads. The subtle mirroring in the first spread connects her to her bird painting. Kristin noted that some people would find her work to be unsophisticated, but at this point she doesn’t care anymore. Pretty awesome in my opinion, and I wanted the headline to support that.
The cover is a play on the recordings that are a part of the interview process. I recorded myself saying “Design Speak” and created these letters in the shape of those sound waves. I played with photography a little – The final cover is a photo of the design on a computer screen. It gives it some funky texture and gradient.
