Entitled »Götterdämmerung. König Ludwig II.« (»Twilight of the Gods. Kind Ludwig II«), the Bavarian State Exhibition of 2011 was hosted at the New Herrenchiemsee Palace; with 570,000 visitors, it is the most successful Bavarian State Exhibition to date.
Kind Ludwig II ranges among the most prominent figures of European history and his buildings are the object of great admiration everywhere. In remembrance of his death 125 years ago, the exhibition was devoted to his tragic story. The visitors experienced a historical drama in five acts about Bavaria and its king. The New Herrenchiemsee Palace provided the setting for the exhibition. Starting in 1878, the palace was built by Ludwig II as a monument of the idea of absolute rule. Friedrich Pürstinger was responsible for the exhibition design; collaboratively, we developed and realised the exhibition graphics.
