Of trees, people and animals: »Der Alpenwald« is a book about the wealth of the alpine forest, which has countless purposes – it is a living space, resource, protection, storage, recreation area and vanishing point. The protagonists who work with the wood of the alpine forest are as diverse as the flora and fauna: the charcoal burner, who has been harnessing the energy of the forest for centuries, the architect, who creates excellent modern living space with the wood of this forest, or the instrument maker, who finds sonorous woods in the alpine forest. They and many other participants have their say in the book and report on life in and with the alpine forest.

For Benevento Publishing, we developed a design language for this large-format publication that perfectly reflects the different narrative formats of the authors and also allows the necessary graphic freedom. As a creative metaphor for the subtitle of the book, »A description of nature and culture from 20 perspectives«, we defined a twenty-column structure, a natural colour concept, and a vertical shape reminiscent of dense forests. Large-scale images, informative and impressive illustrations as well as maps provide the book with a lively, diverse design. As a limited edition, slipcases made of Swiss stone pine were manufactured for the opulent volume.
