My Personal Coffin

Death is Instagrammable? In this case, yes. The "My Personal Coffin" project was an initiative organized by the advertising agency Heimat Berlin, and promoted by the Federal Association of German Undertakers and the Federation of German Crafts. Various artists were asked to design coffins for Germany celebrities, in order to bring about a frank and open discussion on death - perhaps something we are all well suited to do more of. I designed a coffin for the TV presenter and actor, Jochen Schröpp. His motto, "When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade" became a cheeky subject for the theme of his coffin. I took the idea and used the boldest colors possible - a stance for the opposite of what would normally be expected on a coffin. Fluorescent hues depict jungle and lemon motifs and wild patterns (personal references to the celebrity's favorite things), and the phrase "When Life Gives You Lemons" was used as text wrapped around all four sides of the coffin.  The coffin becomes instead a celebration of Jochen's effervescent personality and a reminder of his bold life.  More can be seen on the Instagram account at https://www.instagram.com/mypersonalcoffin/.
