Orange County Rescue Mission Aids Veterans and Others

The author of the soon to be published Bye Bye Back Pain, Physical and Occupational therapist, and Holistic Healthcare Practitioner Dr. Grace Walker Gray is the past director of Walker Physical Therapy and pain Center Dr. Grace Walker Gray also supports the Orange County Rescue Mission.

The mission began its work in 1963, when a sergeant in the U.S. Marines began collecting food for those who were homeless. Over the years, the mission has expanded its service to veterans without permanent places to stay. Almost 1,400 veterans live on the streets in Orange County, and roughly 4,500 wait for affordable housing.

To alleviate this problem, the mission opened the Tustin Veterans Outpost in 2016. The staff uses the basics of military life - friendship, discipline, and good work habits - to aid up to 26 veterans and family members in an apartment complex. They benefit from the assistance of the agency’s award-winning Village of Hope, a converted military base which is now a shelter with 262 beds.

The outpost offers complete care for its residents. Assistance ranges from case management and spiritual development to legal services and job training. Local universities also provide medical and mental health programs.
