UX/UI Case of Study

Centre for Neuro Skills - Case Study

Centre for Neuro Skills is a world leader in medical treatment, rehabilitation, and disease management for individuals with brain injury, while pursuing and advancing the best clinical treatment, education, and research.

Goals

Make the clinic associates save time, get more productive, more connected.

Create a neat and handy app interface, where the users could easily manage it and access data such as patient profile, recovering progress, notes, work documents, scheduling appointments, therapy times, videos etc.

Improve the system tools and implement new resources, and help the associates to feel more productive, rather than frustrated or disrupting their workflows.

Reduce the number of the system screens and clicks.

Create a feature to display the patience accuracy data automatically. E.g. The data automatically readjusts when you enter new one.

My Role

I led the UXUI Design process collaborating as part of small team (Designer and Developer), to create a new intuitive, easy-to-use Tablet App.

Main Tasks:

- User-Centered Design.
- UX Strategy.
Personas, Empathy Mapping, Personas and Scenarios Analysis.
- User stories.
- Content Strategy.
- Sketching, Wireframing & Prototyping.
- Visual Design.

Research

During the research phase, we performed an initial analysis of the current IBM Notes System, writing a report with the following conclusions:

Current Concerns

Time Management
Clinic staff often work with limited environments and report difficulty managing their sessions while having an electronic device open. Some departments do not have the surface space to provide treatment and also have a laptop next to them. They also have trouble switching between windows when they are seeing multiple patients.

Communication
Clinic staff utilise the paper data sheets to track and communicate patient needs and progress. They are able to write notes about patient performance and track past performances with a quick glance at the summary sheet. They track how often a patient has been in their discipline, what they previously worked on, and how the patient’s performance is progressing. They also track how many times a patient has been in pairs or groups during a given week. The paper summary sheets allow staff the ability to track data that might not be tracked in ACIS, but is important to a particular case. This could include tasks from other disciplines. Currently, they must do two notes to account for this discrepancy. It is also common for staff to perform tasks across multiple sessions. ie: prospective memory tasks that can span over a few weeks. Education also has complex reading tasks that will be completed over several sessions.

Enforcement
Currently, there is no auditing system for the treatment plans. This has led to treatment plans that are not up to date or are missing completely. Often times, data for one task is tracked under another or left out because that task is not available on the treatment plan. Success of this transition will be completely dependent on therapists being held accountable for the quality and accuracy of their work.

Emphaty Map

Creating empathy maps and personas are both collaborative tools you can use to gain deeper insight into your user base.
Personas

The Clinical app is for internal use only and we already had them defined by the client. The persona group is composed by the clinic staff: the therapists and aides.
User Stories and Scenarios

A scenario is a short story about a specific user with a specific goal at your application or site. Writing a scenario help you describe the stories and context behind why a specific user or user group has during visiting your website or application.
