SKR-112 was a Petya-II-class (159A project) frigate, comissioned to Black Sea Fleet of the Soviet Navy in 1968. It later became known as the first warship that raised the Ukrainian flag.
After the dissolution of the USSR fate of the Black Sea fleet became unclear. The major part of the personnel, armaments and coastal facilities of the Fleet fell under formal jurisdiction of the newly independent Ukraine as they were situated on Ukrainian territory. Later, the Ukrainian government ordered the establishment of its own Ukrainian Navy based on the Black Sea Fleet; several ships and ground formations declared themselves Ukrainian.
On July 21, 1992, shortly after the declaration of Ukrainian independence, SKR-112 crew raised Ukrainian flag, refused order from Soviet/Russian Black Sea Fleet command and sailed the ship toward Odessa, narrowly avoiting combat with chasing Russian ships.
Following the lack of resources to keep it operable, SKR-112 was then decomissioned and scraped in 1994, despite public calls to keep it as a museum ship.
Petya-class (designed in the USSR as the 159, 159A, and 159M projects) primary role was an anti-submarine warfare. They was equipped with hydroacoustic system in the fairing under the keel, RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launchers and 5406 mm torpedo tubes.
