Digital Voices - Individual Accountability

As an intern for Keynote Studios, I am in charge of the behind the scenes documentation of the production of Aria. We upload 3-5 minute videos of our weekly progress every week. I have also assisted in other tasks such as editing, camera work, cinematography, script revision, storyboarding, and motion graphics.

Reflection
2019 - 06 -12
From the beginning of the semester, our group, Keynote Studios, has been extremely determined to complete and release our short film 'Aria'. As a group, we faced many challenges along the way such as story development, scheduling, and finalizing. Although these challenges were difficult to overcome, they assisted us in developing our team collaboration skills and gave us very memorable experiences. The first major challenge that we tackled as a team would be developing our story. Our main struggle towards developing a story would be figuring out how to create an emotional connection with the audience to characters of our story. What definitely helped us during this obstacle was using our personal individual experiences to help us craft our characters and it's struggles. Our second major obstacle towards developing our short film would be scheduling. After developing our story, we had to determine the most appropriate dates for production. This was an obstacle due to us having to push back filming dates a few times, which had only decreased the amount of days we had left to finish our short film. Our last obstacle to overcome would have to be producing our final/clean edit. After creating our first rough cut, we held a pre-screening which made us realise our lack of connection with the characters to the audience. This was definitely stressful for the whole team because not only did we lack what we initially aimed for, we were very close to the premiere date. This led our group to split up into two separate teams to produce two different edits. Being only a week away from premiering, we had to decide which edit we were going to premiere. What we decided to do instead of choosing one edit was to combine elements from both edits to create our final version. This was definitely the most difficult obstacle our group had to overcome, but nevertheless we pulled through as a team.
Being a part of Keynote has really helped me break out of my shell. I developed many key-skills towards team collaboration, but most importantly, I learned how to work within a group of people who in the beginning, I knew nothing about. Having no experience towards working on a big project such as 'Aria', I joined the group with very little social skills and a shy personality. After familiarizing myself with everyone and learning how kind everyone was, my colleagues quickly became truly important friends. Although we worked towards a very serious goal of completing our project, I learned as well to have fun with the task and enjoy the journey. Through out all this, my passion for film has grown even more than it already has. I learned what I enjoyed doing and what I didn't enjoy doing. To sum this all up, I really enjoyed being a part of DV, I enjoyed literally everything that the course had to offer. In the future, I hope to come back and participate in creating something even more amazing with even more amazing people.
