ART111 Oswald. Bailey Lepley. 2018.

This was my first assignment I did in ART 111. For this assignment we were given a sheet of paper covered in dots that formed a grid pattern. What we then had to do was create whatever we wanted from those patterns. One thing that I love about this assignment was that it was the very first thing I drew for a college assignment. It felt really nice to have so much freedom and I feel like it really shows with how I went all out with the details. It was definitely an assignment I was excited to be working on and I ended up completing it entirely in one sitting since I felt so inspired to keep working on it. As for the subject matter itself, I decided to go with what immediately came to my mind, an octopus monster. I decided to use the dots that covered the paper as the markings on the octopus and the grids to make windows that he could be reaching out of. I decided to name this drawing Oswald because of the adorable tv show Oswald I used to watch when I was younger. I feel like the movement through this composition was very successful and does a good job of moving the viewer's eye in a way that feels natural and uninterrupted. Although I feel that the insides of the windows look nice I wish I had gone with a simpler design because it feels to be a little distracting when I look back on it now.
