ART102 Color Still Life. Bailey Lepley. 2018.

This is my color still life from ART 102, color theory. For this assignment I opted to base my painting off of a still life that was built in class rather than a plant from the greenhouse since I thought that it would be better to see the still life in person. I started out by creating a detailed sketch of the still life before simplifying the shading and then selecting colors to then use. I'd say the biggest challenge was choosing colors that would pop from each other but still would be different enough from the colors of the original still life. I then finished this painting off with acrylic paint. One of the most difficult parts of this assignment was that it was very time consuming and I could not work from the still life in person due to not having access to the still life outside of class. I ended up simply basing my painting from an image I took in class. I also decided to do a second still life with blended shading and a different color combination that I felt was more complementary because I was curious of how it would come out and how much my painting skills had improved. One positive thing that I felt about this piece was that I felt like I had done a decent job with this being my first time working from a still life, however I feel like my color choices could have been better along with my application of shading without blending. However I feel like the other painting I did helps to demonstrate my will to improve my artwork for myself and definitely shows much improvement.
