Eurydice, by Sarah Ruhl is a reimagining of the classic myth of Orpheus taken from the perspective of its heroine. The story follows Eurydice through her journey into the underworld and contains a few twists that differ from the original story. This contemporary take on its characters and strong visual effects help to reinvigorate the play and create a fresh look at a timeless love story.
This poster illustration developed for a university performance utilizes the concepts of minimalist design to capture the essence of the story with iconic imagery that is both mysterious and intriguing. The challenge here was to limit the visual look of the piece while conveying the mood of the play's story, dreamlike and hallucinatory. The main character, shown here with her umbrella, being overcome with rainfall, is reminiscent of one of the most memorable scenes of the performance, while the cracked texture in the background lets the viewer know that all is not well and the world of Eurydice is coming apart.
