Science Exhibit: The Wood Wide Web

Science Exhibit: The Wood Wide Web
I created an identity and illustrated panels for a science exhibit that would be suitable for inclusion at the St. Louis Science Center. For my topic, I selected mycorrhizal networks, the underground system of fungi filaments and tree roots that help the forest communciate. I included illustrations inspired by children’s storybooks to increase the viewers’ engagement in the exhibit. Each exhibit panel is followed by an intermediate panel that includes a literary quote that references forests, trees, or nature to foster inspiration and contemplation in the viewers.
To supplement the science exhibit panels, I created an illustrated catalog. The catalog includes illustrations from the main exhibit panels, but also features new illustrations and information unique to the catalog as well as custom end papers. The large format of the catalog provides ample room for the detailed illustrations and furthers the storybook theme.
