Handmade Typeface
I created a handmade monospaced typeface using 35mm camera film. The typeface is available in uppercase only and features several swashes and decorative characters. The type specimen poster features a close up photograph of a camera lens and the light orbs it emitted, which I masked over the title copy. I utilized red hues for the poster to mimic a darkroom light.
The 35mm film had a black side and gray side, which gave the typeface an interesting two-tone effect. The typeface also works well when edited to be monotone.
I applied my typeface to a poster advertising a film festival. I felt that the geometric, angular aspect of the typeface gave it a futuristic feel that would be fitting for a sci-fi theme. A photograph of the night sky is masked over the title copy and the secondary headings feature monotone versions of the typeface.
