Sue the T-Rex Touch Screen at the Field Museum

Explore and Assemble Sue's Bones in Fluid 3D

The Field Museum, one of the world's preeminent natural history museums, asked Bluecadet to bring to life the skeleton of their famous T. Rex, “Sue” as an eye-catching touch wall centerpiece for their newly-remodeled Searle Lounge. The Field Museum wanted visitors to act as paleontologists, discovering for themselves how to assemble the skeleton’s bones based on their distinctive shapes and features.

In this immersive 3D experience, visitors can fluidly rotate Sue's skeleton and examine it from every vantage point while choosing bone sections to add. Each bone section can be individually rotated and zoomed using intuitive gestures and then dragged onto the correct location on the skeleton to place it. Visitors can turn the skeleton as they are placing the bone pieces, allowing them to explore it from every angle as they add each piece. The visitor can also reveal a hint, the scientific and common name for each piece, if they get stuck. The experience allows visitors to work collaboratively with their friends, family or strangers to complete the puzzle, but also adapts gracefully for an individual visitor.

Selected bone pieces activate additional information on what scientists can learn from the bones, including how Sue lived and why she might have died.Visitors can also examine these bones at life-size to get a sense of how enormous her skeleton is.

Once the puzzle is fully completed, sue roars to life in a fun animated finale where visitors get to see her move and run off the screen.

The experience runs fluidly and beautifully, on a gorgeous Ideum 65" Presenter.
