- What Makes a Good Demo Reel -
A VFX demo reel is a cinematic resume showcasing what a VFX artist has done and can do. They break down the process of creating what is shown from what was filmed. Good demo reels present the best of an artist in the work that they've done, in a way that keeps the audience hooked for the entirety of it. I find that the general "wow" I feel from seeing the progression of the effects keeps me interested, but a good flow provided from the music and transitions used contribute tremendously in having me watch all of the artist's work. I am generally quiet when introducing myself to anyone, and I wanted to keep that mellow feel for my demo reel. So with that in mind, I showcased my work with lounge music to give my audience a relaxed viewing experience but with upbeat breaks in between with the transitions to keep my audience awake and attentive with the hopes of giving them the same "wow" feeling with my work.
