Animation: Fundamentals Unit

Activity 1 - History of Animation and Storyboarding
FPS - Short for frames per second, which is the rate each frame changes in each second.
Frames - The individual images in a sequence that may differ from the one before.
Underlay - Artwork done underneath or behind the main animation.
Animating on the Ones, Twos and Threes - Deciding whether or not the progress of the different frames of an animation should be set in exposure either one, two, or three frames away from each other. The standard for the class is animating on the twos.
Scenes - Individual shots in a video, that compose a sequence and are comprised of panels. Scenes could change into another with a cut or a transition.
Panels -  Individual frames in a shot.
Storyboard - A visual plan of the scenes of an animation or video. They indicate what actions will take place, how the composition of the scene is laid out, how the camera moves throughout the scene, and what dialogue could be said.
Animatic - A video with sound made from the storyboard. It plays out what was indicated in the storyboard, such as: the action, the composition, the camera, and the dialogue.
Activity 2 - Exploration of Animation and Toon Boom Harmony
Key Panels - Panels in the workspace that contain the properties and features of that panel. Some essential examples are the Camera, Timeline, and Tools panels.
Hot Keys - Shortcuts for actions that can be done through the keyboard that make using Harmony easier and faster. Some examples include pressing 1 or 2 to zoom out or zoom in respectively, and holding space to be able to pan through your workspace.
Cells - Exposed frames on the timeline that are drawn on.
Exposure - How long or how many frames a cell is exposed for on the timeline.
Layers - Different layers that can be worked on that are placed in the timeline. Drawing layers include a separate Line Art and Colour layer that are meant for drawing and colouring respectively.
Onion Skin - A mode that allows red and green exposure of the frames before and after the frame that is currently being worked on.
Light Table - A mode that allows exposure of the layers beneath the layer that is currently being worked on.
