Holt’s is a neighborhood restaurant located in the heart of downtown Park Ridge, Illinois. Known in the area for its outstanding food quality, approachable service and warm, family-friendly atmosphere, the venue is a favorite among local residents. The menu is designed for broad appeal and is anchored by excellent sheet-style pizza. The beverage offering is ample, a wide and constantly rotating range of craft beers on tap compliments clever cocktails and quality spirits. The restaurant and bar boast warmly modern interiors which discretely celebrate the building’s origins as a bank. The restaurant experience was imagined and produced by Curioso, our sister agency in Chicago.
We knew from the start of the project that given the restaurant’s broad appeal, from young families to longtime neighbors, we would have to adapt the brand to a vast array of applications and customers. In order to best do that, instead of placing the same logotype on different carriers, we designed a branding system with a main logo, its variations, and other visual elements. We created an icon for every need, this way Holt’s can easily represent its brand personality on nearly any suitable surface or virtual application.
The leading logotype—a curved, welcoming typography, designed to express the friendliness of the brand—is set on a central mirror behind the bar, as well as on other marketing pieces. Variations of this logotype can be seen in the dining area, hand painted over a big brick wall, on napkins and coasters, and even rubber-stamped on their pizza boxes. Other elements of the branding system can be found on Holt’s doors, restroom signs and overall bar signage.
The end result of both the restaurant experience and the brand identity is one that playfully announces Holt’s as a place where good food and good company meet in a beautiful space.
