Out of the Wild
During my years studying visual effects, we were taught to paint concepts in Photoshop. One of the practice exercises was to replicate a film still.
I chose to reference Into The Wild. At the time, daylight was reserved for lunch hour exclusively. I loved the idea of sitting on a mountain in the sun, reading a book.
That film captured for me a feeling a freedom that no other film has. Creating this was as much an escape as an assignment.
Drawn by eye using grid overlays to compare sections of visual information. Colors were sampled from the original film, then adjusted for a touch of added warmth.
Mine on the left, original on the right.
If you haven't seen the film—do.
