Assignment: Daily UI Calculator

Application: I chose to create an interface for a calculator app.

Design: Why reinvent the wheel? Calculators are used daily and so the interface should feel comfortable, familiar, and come second to the functionality. Inspired by the block coloring of the built-in calculator app from the Google Pixel, I decided to push the design to the next level. I selected Roboto as my font to take advantage of the strong sans serif with a variety of font weights to play with. I created a day and night theme so users can select the appearance that works best with the rest of their phone aesthetic or easily view text in different lighting. I paired down the calculator to the most basic of functions for the daily user who simply needs to split their utility bill or figure out an 18% tip. There are no extra functions to distract from the simple elegance and power of the most essential calculator.
