Inspirado por la foto Pale Blue Dot (la fotografía de la Tierra que hizo la sonda Voyager 1 desde 6.000 millones de km de distancia), Carl Sagan recalcó algo que es una obviedad pero que pasamos por alto cada día: La Tierra es nuestra casa, y no hay más.

Como especie biológica, los humanos estamos adaptados a vivir únicamente en este planeta, pero la curiosidad nos empuja a salir, a alejarnos de este hábitat familiar y cómodo. La tecnología hace posible que algunos humanos vivan fuera, orbitando alrededor de la Tierra a 400 km de altura y girando a 27.000 km/h. Son la avanzadilla, los exploradores, cautivados por el hechizo que produce asomarse y ver lo que hay más allá. El astronauta es un símbolo de la curiosidad, conserva la ingenuidad y la imprudencia de los niños. Y su estética, propia de la exploración espacial, tiene algo de improvisado, de diseño no acabado y en constante mejora y evolución. Una estética prosaica, no hay simetrías, equilibrios, armonías, adornos ni elegancia. Solo hay eficacia.

Como dibujante encuentro fascinante ese aparente caos que forman los cientos de dispositivos que permiten que una entidad biológica sea activa en el espacio. Y es con esta estética con la que reivindico aquella reflexión que hizo Sagan, ese punto de vista que nos devuelve a lo insignificante. Y por qué no, a lo épico.

El uso de la litografía, centenaria, artesanal, me da la oportunidad de llevar imágenes de carácter documental o divulgativo al mundo del arte, y ofrece una textura y una calidez que permiten que un motivo tecnológico, psicológicamente ligado al futuro, evoque otras épocas, que se convierta en algo propio de leyenda. Un juego de cruces temporales.

¿El observador está en el futuro? ¿Está en el pasado? En cierto modo, el viaje se puede hacer en los dos sentidos.

Inspired by the photo Pale Blue Dot (the photograph of the Earth made by Voyager 1 from 6,000 million km away), Carl Sagan emphasized something that is obvious but that we ignore every day: The Earth is our home, and there is no more.
As a biological species, humans are adapted to live only on this planet, but curiosity pushes us out, away from this familiar and comfortable habitat. The technology makes it possible for some humans to live outside, orbiting around the Earth 400 km high and turning at 27,000 km / h. They are the outpost, the explorers, captivated by the spell that produces to lean out and see what is beyond. The astronaut is a symbol of curiosity, preserves the ingenuity and imprudence of children. And its aesthetic, typical of space exploration, has something of improvised, unfinished design and constantly improving and evolving. A prosaic aesthetic, there are no symmetries, balances, harmonies, ornaments or elegance. There is only effectiveness.
As a draftsman I find fascinating that apparent chaos that form the hundreds of devices that allow a biological entity to be active in space. And it is with this aesthetic that I claim Sagan's reflection, that point of view that returns us to the insignificant. And why not, to the epic.
The use of lithography, centenary, artisanal, gives me the opportunity to bring documentary or informative images to the art world, and offers a texture and a warmth that allows a technological motif, psychologically linked to the future, to evoke other eras, that it becomes something of a legend. A game of temporary crosses.
Is the observer in the future? Is it in the past? In a way, the trip can be made in both directions.
