Designing an architectural performance space from an invented form of musical score.
 
The abstract: The musical notation marks each sectional repitition of notes and tones.
The physical: Each note represented as a stair; the stair acts as a means of circulation, static and ecstatic
                         means as well as an opportunity for performance space.
Program:
 
A musical performance and institutional building for the musicians of the 'Bang On A Can' association. Containing practice rooms and recording studios as well as interior and exterior performance space, scaling from a large auditorium space to each individual stairway and platform which can essentially be used as an auditorium space projecting sound throughout the entire open structure.
-- Overall scheme with beginning musical score used aesthetically for the facade

--Sequence of stairways
-- Sectional study through floor levels and interior (below grade) and exterior (roof access) performance spaces
--On the partywall, there are a secondary system of stairs offering direct access to each  main floor level as well      as elevator access for ADA approval.
