ALTERNATE ROUTES PROJECT

Tunnel Vision: Defective sight in which objects cannot be properly seen if not close to the center of the field of view. If you suffer from tunnel vision, you are unable to see things that are not straight in front of you. The focus of attention on a particular problem without proper regard for possible consequences or alternative approaches.
The Concept: I wanted to look at a route that I take often. I decided to choose my journey to work from the Foggy Bottom Metro to the National Gallery of Art. What is unique about this route is that it starts in a tunnel and ends in a tunnel. Whenever I travel this route I am typically trying to commute as quickly as possible. For this project, I thought it would be interesting to tell the story of the fastest way to get from one tunnel to another. The idea of creating an interactive map showing the best ways to move from point A to point B, plays well with the whole idea of tunnel vision. As users interact with each stop of the journey, there will be interactive elements such as pop-up boxes that give helpful hints to people looking for the fastest ways to travel the route.
