When Dolby invited us to participate in the brand development for Dolby Dimension, they were well underway with brand assets for the new product. Our primary objective: explore the potential audio-visual forms for the blurred figures within the existing branding. What would these shapes look like, what kind of life would they take, and how would they behave once they were pulled into focus?

See the final project here.

With the wide open brief of visualizing sound, we wanted to develop a variety of solutions with various visual applications. The idea was to pursue a wide range of graphic systems that could function as audio visualizations. In the end we explored four different formal approaches: Meshes, fluids, particles and strings. The resulting solution became a combination of many of the visual explorations encountered throughout the process.

It was important to develop a unique behavior for the elements as string and particle systems have been overused, especially in the space of sound visualization. We treated the systems as fluid deformations rather than turbulent fields. This created a uncommon feel the more typical formal structures. The result is a system that behaves as if its suspended in fluid, swirling and reacting physically to sound.
