Tripoli International Fair Between Out-of-Place/In-Place: A Utopian Nonbeing
Emerging Voices: A Dialogue With Niemeyer

Tripoli International Fair, a place of postponed utopia because its prosperous future was ended by the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War in 1975 and never re-launched till today.  As the corners of the fair are trying to stand still between preserving, intervening, misusing, and distracting, they leave us with a mysterious feeling of a leftover modernist heritage evoking sadness, loneliness, romanticism, curiosity, and freedom. A space completely disconnected from its spatial and urban environment.

The purpose of this study is to rethink the inner and outer space of Tripoli International Fair in terms of their interrelationship and to develop means for engaging both realms in a dialogue that would eventually transcend the classist modes.
The scope of this research is those traces (Graffiti, throw-ups, tags) left in Tripoli International Fair by the different generations that came across it. And how they help in re-shaping this architectural space in regards to itsinterior and exterior as equal partners in a linked system of relationships.

A proposed dialogue between the city of Tripoli, Lebanon and Oscar Niemeyer based on the series of events and movements (especially the traces ; Graffiti, Throw-ups, Tags) left by the different generations who came across the fair.
