A school where old people become the teachers is the idea of “La vieja Escuela” (The Old School). The wisdom of our grandparents has been forgotten in our society. Retirement creates a barrier between them and the common reality. This project creates a feedback space between people with knowledge and people who need to learn new things or improve their knowledge, especially in a crisis period. The school has different rooms according to the needs of teaching. It has a lab room, a classroom, a library, a “one to one room“, a conversation room, a hall with reception and a facilities area. The main concept is to distill the knowledge of our eldest for the use of the students of the school. Every room has different heights and materials but there is an element that builds all the school. A large corridor starts in the street and ends in the courtyard and crosses on the right side from all rooms. This corridor represents light and we use white micro-cement concrete and copper strips. The library, the source of knowledge, is located in the center of the school and lights up the whole school. Thus the whole library is white, even the vinyl tensioning backlit ceiling. The bookcases are located outside the library in order to create a pure space. The classrooms are made with comfortable materials like flooring and high skirting board made of bright wood covered with linoleum and walls painted dark grey. The light comes from the corridor, and from two inner courtyards, and three skylights, which light the classroom and the lab. The first inner courtyard is the entrance of the school and the second one is in the middle of the library. The copper, bell shaped skylights benefit natural lighting.

This project was designed with Marc Borrell at Elisava, School of Design.
