Removing Friction to Increase Sign Up Completion
As with any product, the first 5 minutes of interaction are the most critical when it comes to building trust and making a good impression. We noticed a drop after the photo upload stage in our sign up flow and decided to test 3 different versions:

1. Making “Skip” option more prominent
2. Version 1 plus photo tips
3. Version 2 without “Use your Facebook photo” button

I created wireframes and then full-color comps for each version.

We defaulted Version 3 (bottom), without the Facebook button, because we saw a an 11% lift in sign up completion. Members in the Version 3 group also had their first two-way chat sooner, were more engaged than the other test groups, sent and received more flirts, winks, and favorites. This test taught us that members are more likely to enhance their profile after they get to try out the product and meet people first.
Version 1: "Skip" option is more prominent than original design.
Version 2: Prominent "Skip" option with photo tips.
Version 3: Winning design - similar to Version 2, but with Facebook button omitted.
