Working collaboratively with Ricki Dwyer we combined digital fabrication and traditional basket weaving. Built in the spirit of Sankofa an Akan word meaning "Go back and fetch it". It embodies the need to understand your past so that you are prepared to step into the future. Using Rhino 3D and Grasshopper, a script was written to parametrically divide and ellipsoid surface into a hexagonal pattern. The sections of the 748 wooden hexagons we all cut using a 18x32 laser cutter then wrapped using traditional basket weaving.
