GreenStart Magazine - Layout design and Typography

GreenStart Magazine is a sustainable magazine aimed at aspiring designers and the general public. The contents of the magazine are designed to educate and inspire the audience about sustainable design practices and products.

The magazine was a collaborative effort from four students: Erin Craig, Caitlin McAnulty, Kalvyn-Joy Immerzeel and myself. The layout and design of GreenStart is minimalist, due to the use sans serif typefaces and white space around the images and text. GreenStart is also image heavy, with most articles containing more than one full image spread.
Contribution

My personal contribution to the magazine involved sourcing and designing one of the feature designer articles and a personal story article.
Our final concept kept true to the style of the magazine, by keeping white space and a repetitive grid, as well as its continual use of sans serif typefaces. We also kept true to our topic of sustainability by using sustainable paper to print our magazine on.

Creating a magazine was an interesting and involving learning experience for all of us. We learnt many useful things as designers, such as how to layout a grid, and how to create a font hierarchy within the page. While the creation process took many drafts and reprints, we managed to create a coherent and flowing magazine, due to our collaborative efforts.
This project was created in 2016 by Laura Collins, Erin Craig, Caitlin McAnulty and Kalvyn-Joy Immerzeel
