Qatar Unfiltered .... I
Having lived in Doha (Qatar) since early 2014, my interest gradually evolved over time from a keen interest in street photography towards the documentation of scenes from the Qatar behind the glamorous facades and iconic representations in the wider media.
Qatar Unfiltered … is an ongoing project documenting the Qatar not generally seen or accessible to passing visitors – the charming, rustic and sometimes harsh realities of life in a rather hostile desert region. The series all consist of colour digital images in a 3:2 landscape ratio and processed in similar ways to form a unified series. The images on display represent only a part of the larger series, which continues to grow as surprise opportunities present themselves.
This series is representative of my personal search for beauty in the banal, expressed in my own interpretation of the “New Topographics” photography style. I hope to capture elements of the banal in a way that will intrigue the viewer to notice the abundant charm, quirks and beauty to be found in this rustic, harsh environment.
